Tesla’s Affordable EV Model Y to Launch with Stripped-Down Features
Tesla's upcoming affordable electric vehicle, a cost-reduced version of the Model Y, will eliminate several features to achieve a lower price point. CEO Elon Musk confirmed the strategy focuses on simplifying existing production rather than developing a new model.
Firmware analysis by Tesla hacker GreenTheOnly reveals key removals: interior lighting limited to footwells, single-axis electronic seat adjustments, and the deletion of puddle lamps and rear passenger displays. Further cost-cutting measures may include a fiberglass roof liner, non-power-folding mirrors, and the absence of heated rear cameras or premium suspension.
The vehicle, codenamed E41, is expected to offer both all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive configurations. This approach mirrors auto industry trends where manufacturers balance feature reduction against consumer demand for accessible EV pricing.
